Wray by M.K. Eidem
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Second installment of the “Tornians” book series. This one features Wray the all mighty Emperor of their Universe/Galaxy/Solar System??? (Not sure the correct term but understanding where in the galaxy is not as important as the sexiness that is the emperor-extraordinaire.) Yet again in this story I invite you to suspend reality in order to really enjoy this book. Is it cheesy? Admittedly, YES… but in the best way possible.
As I’ve stated earlier Wray is the Emperor for the Tornians- a warrior species of alien. They value strength, valor and honor above all else. The worth of a warrior is of utmost importance to them. Their breed is dying out due to a curse from the Goddess 500 years earlier. Thus- females are rare (1 female for every 200 males) and the more worthy the male- the higher their chances of landing a female. Female Tornians are a rotten group of ladies. Due to their rarity they’ve gotten spoiled, demanding and lazy. These poor desperate males fork over everything they have in the chance of having an heir to continue their bloodline. Insert Kim Teel- a human who was kidnapped and repeatedly raped by other aliens before being rescued by Wray. Kim is everything the Tornian females aren’t. She’s short and curvy (5’5″ and 140lbs), compassionate and warm with fiery red hair. She cares about not only Wray but the warriors who protect her and Wray’s offspring.
Yet again I must gripe that she accepts the reality that aliens exist quite easily. She also becomes pregnant immediately- something that I feel would at least have been a larger discussion for the couple. Knowing that Earth’s females can control conception with birth control and have more of a “say” when and if they conceive. How is it that Kim at such a young age and after such a tramatic event is so quick to accept becoming a mother in an alternate universe? I guess I should remind myself that’s why it’s a fantasy book- but again, things that I questioned while reading the story.
Pick up this book if you’re looking forward to a stress-free, fun, whimsical story. Ciao!
