book review- becoming a vincent by c.m. owens

Becoming A Vincent (The Wild Ones, #1)

Becoming A Vincent by C.M. Owens

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Omg! This book was fan-fucking-tasting!!! I would have given it 6 stars if I could!!! Hilarious, sexy, fun, interesting… an all around great read!!!

Tomahawk is a small lake town in Washington where the local folks are crazy. 4 families are crazy enough to be labeled “the wild ones” and relegated to separate sections of the lake to avoid catastrophe and mayhem. Lillah and her two brothers (triplets) are wild ones. Their antics make the story so much fun to read. Lillah herself is hilarious and I instantly connected with her. “Personally, if you’re running regularly, I assume you’re hiding something nefarious and practicing your getaway for whatever is coming after you. And I don’t want to be your friend, because I hate running.” Boom- after reading that Lillah became my instant best friend!

Now, what can I saw about Benson? First and foremost I LOVE how he accepts and celebrates Lillah’s craziness. His physical description is drool worth yet he’s a little too guarded which made for an interesting book but prohibits him from becoming a permanent fixture on my list of book boyfriends.

Very much looking forward to the next book in the series!!!

Horrific and wonderful. Warped beyond belief…. and I loved it. I won’t be able to sleep tonight but I can’t rate this book anything less than 5 stars.

I literally don’t know how to provide a through review without ruining the book for future readers. Download the book with an open mind and prepare to be wonderfully destroyed.

Enjoy!

BOOK REVIEW- WEREWOLVES OF THE MOUNTAIN BY ABIGAIL RAINES

Werewolves of the Mountain (Werewolves of St. Neuri #1)

Werewolves of the Mountain by Abigail Raines

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At only 119 pages (kindle) this book is a very quick read. I discovered it during a quick perusal of the Kindle Unlimited section. While this book won’t blow you away with an in-depth look at shifter/werewolf culture; nor will it alter your perception of love and relationships. What it will do is satisfy your whimsical paranormal book cravings.

Millie is an up-and-coming fashion designer who is passionate about success. She’s putting in long hours to see her dream become a reality. So caught up in her career-she’s lost touch with most of her hometown friends and only speaks occasionally to her father. Sadly, she’s brought back into her hometown of St Neuri when her father unexpectedly passes away.

Liam- As a reader your first glimpse of his character is at a greasy hamburger shack. He begs a cup of coffee off a waitress (after shamelessly flirting) even though he’s been banned from the establishment. This gave me an impression that he was rangy and perhaps a big of a cad. Millie feels an instant lust/love towards Liam but is quickly warned off by the cafe’s waitress.

Millie and Liam have a few more run-ins which gave me a better (more favorable) opinion of Liam.

Again, the story is quick and lacks depth (due to it’s brevity) but I still rate it as a solid read for those looking for a few hours of whimsy.

BOOK REVIEW- ROYAL BY WINTER RENSHAW

Royal (Rixton Falls, #1)

Royal by Winter Renshaw

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Five bright, shining (but very “angsty”) stars. Winter Renshaw really dragged her readers through an emotional roller coaster with this story… and I loved every second of it!

Demi Rosewood grew up in the quintessential family/neighborhood. Loving parents, supportive siblings, all around well-rounded childhood. Royal grows up in foster care because his morbidly obese mother was unfit due to her gambling addiction. The two meet when Demi’s brother Derek befriends Royal. The Rosewood family falls in love with Royal and he ends up living there after he ages out of the foster care system. Something happens when Royal is 19 (as a reader you’re kept in the dark about what it is until the very end) and Demi’s father forbids anyone from contacting Royal ever again.

7 years later and after a car accident almost claims the life of Demi’s fiancé guess who shows up!?! Yup! Royal! And he’s about to throw everyone’s life as they knew it upside down!

Buckle up for this story! Lots of unfair, frustrating twists and turns as the story evolves.

book review- show me the way by a.l. jackson

Show Me the Way (Fight for Me, #1)

Show Me the Way by A.L. Jackson

I’m disappointed to put this one in my DNF category. Originally this book landed on my “Want To Read” list back in March of last year. I’m not sure why, but time and time again I passed it up for something else. Finally 2 days ago I decided to take the plunge.

So why the DNF at 32% complete? First, there’s instalove/lust that isn’t my favorite but I was willing to look past it. Secondly the portrayal of Rex’s 4 year old daughter isn’t accurate. Yes, children can be absolutely adorable at times but not all the time. They are human and will have bad days and good days. It’s a pet peeve of mine when authors portray kids as angelic/in-human creatures. Plus her lisp/speech was grating on my nerves. Also, it’s mentioned that Rynna’s grandmother was in financial trouble with both her business and house. The closure of her restaurant coincides with her passing but also her financial troubles? If her business was so popular why the financial problems? Did she die the instant the business closed or did the failing business close because she passed away? Worst of all… when Rynna is cleaning out the restaurant kitchen it mentions she’s wiping up 30 years worth of grease and grime from the equipment. (Yes, it was also dusty but that can be explained away with being closed for 2 months.) Was her grandma running a dirty diner? Gross.

BOOK REVIEW- The stars afire by elizabeth hunter

The Stars Afire

The Stars Afire by Elizabeth Hunter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Looooooved this series! The first 4 books were available on Amazon Unlimited (score!) but this one cost $4.99 if my memory serves me correctly. It’s my least favorite of the series (especially the last installment) but still 5 stars because of my love and loyalty for the “cast and crew” figuratively speaking.

book review- only work, no play by cora reilly

Only Work, No Play (Tough Games Book 1)

Only Work, No Play by Cora Reilly

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First and foremost…let it be known that Cora Reilly is a goddess and should be treated as such.

Now that’s been established we can move on to the book review portion of my comments…

HOLY FOXING HECK! I am 100% in love with Xavier. The story was fantastic, the plot moved at the right pace…blah, blah, blah. Let me tell you ladies you NEED to read this book just to get yourself a piece of Xavier. MAN.FUCKING.CANDY!!!! Close your eyes and imagine a perfectly chiseled rugby player WITH AN AUSTRALIAN ACCENT, who is an absolute sweetheart that respects women and children. I love this book but am devastated that this character doesn’t exist in real life.

Moving on, I should mention Evie- assistant to Xavier and love interest in the story. She’s got self worth issues stemming from her rather curvy physique. Truth time…I’ve never struggled with obesity so perhaps her obsession with her weight is something I can’t wrap my head around. For me, her constant mention of her weight was annoying. SHE was the person that continually brought it up in conversation… not anyone else. Xavier worshiped her and she still hid behind blankets and made a fuss. Celebrate your body, girlfriend! You have a sexy rugby player…flaunt yourself and have fun!

Lastly, I wouldn’t feel like this was an honest review unless I admitted that on 2 separate occasions I exited the book to confirm who was the author. I did this because the writing style and themes were eerily reminiscent of Claire Contreras’ work. For example this reminded me of The Player and also Mariana Zapata‘s The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I loved both of those books (and the authors) so this isn’t an insult.
