Hmmmm
Enjoyable characters, a tad dark in some sections but not enough to turn away readers.
I can’t rave about it but it satisfies my romance itch.

Rush by Maya Banks
Uncle! Uncle! I give up! I gave it my best effort but you lost me 16% of the way into book. Gabe, Jace and Ash own HCM together. A business that just so happens to be wildly successful/profitable. The 3 friends are thick as thieves and you’re led to believe they are as close and dedicated to each other as family members would be. So why on god’s green earth is Gabe moving in on one of his best friend’s little sisters without doing everything in his power to preserve his friendship first? I just couldn’t buy into the risk being justified to either character. Also, If you’re a frequent reader of my reviews you know I looooove alpha males. I think Gabe’s character was supposed to come off as confident, suave and alpha but his romantic advances towards Mia were too strong and instead made me uncomfortable instead of swooning. Pass
Egomaniac by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another awesome book by Vi Keeland. Drew Jagger has been added to my list of lust-worthy book boyfriends. Me-wow!
Random thoughts as I reflect back on the story and it’s characters-
*I wish both characters would have been a tad older- especially considering their professions and Drew’s level of success- but it wasn’t enough of an issue to distract me from the story.
*I may be in the majority (or exposing my own arrogance) but I didn’t find Drew’s personality to be as arrogant as the title and description would imply. He’s handsome, well educated, successful, wealthy and a great dad. By all accounts he has every right to be unapologetically (not technically a word but you know what I mean) confident. Perhaps at times he was cocky but quite frankly I find that type of confidence and awareness of oneself attractive.
A Humble Heart by R.L. Mathewson
First and foremost I’m convinced that R.L. Mathewson has been stalking me because the first few chapters of the book eerily mirrored my own life. Yep, my life is just that awesome… 🙁
Because I’m convinced the book is based on my real life I was fully invested in the story and characters. Yet as the story progressed the situations became more and more fantastical and I lost steam. I’m at 61% of the way in the story and I’ve caught myself muttering “no fucking way” too many times to count.
First gripe- Dana has major body issues and then all of a sudden she agrees to doing a steamy bikini photo shoot? I’m going to go ahead and file that into the NOPE column.
Second gripe- How is Edward suddenly “all in”? There was literally no progression of their relationship. One minute he’s a regular guy admiring Dana and the next he AND his family are all up in Dana’s family’s business. Again, I’m calling shenanigans.
Third gripe- Movie stars, photo shoots, stalkers, twin pregnancy and bomb threats…oh my! Literally I think several of these ideas were stolen from the author’s tween daughter’s diary. (Bomb threats and stalkers aside unless the tween is an emo weirdo.) This is of course assuming that the author has a tween daughter…
Fourth gripe- All of a sudden Dana’s being offered major movie roles? Wanna try and run that idea past me again?!? She’s a talented author but how on god’s green earth did that qualify her for acting? Seriously there’s millions of dollars and people’s jobs are at stake when making a major movie. I find it incredulous that they’d pick someone at random who’s talents lie elsewhere for such an important role. Also, because of Dana’s insecurities how I am supposed to believe that she accepted the role? Lastly, the story jumped around so much I never read about the finishing of the first movie where they met. It just all of a sudden mentions the movie premiere. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.
So, there you go. I’m a grump-a-saurus and didn’t finish the book.
Beyond the Darkness by Katie Reus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
During my review of “Taste of Darkness” (this book’s predecessor) I had complained about the use of the word “mound” when referring to the character’s vaginas. If this book hadn’t been published a few years before my review I’d swear the author “uped the ante” and started referring to the women’s breasts as mounds just to spite me!!!! Ahhhhhh
Aside from the relentless mention of mounds this book was enjoyable. As the series progresses the types of supernaturals mentioned has become a smorgasbord of every.single.type.of.creature. Wolves, dragons, vampires, demon, demigods…. oh my!
