BOOK REVIEW- Forever, Jack by Natasha Boyd

Forever, Jack (Butler Cove, #2)Forever, Jack by Natasha Boyd
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Most of the things I enjoyed about the first book were absent in this one.

Keri Ann’s character grew increasingly weak and unsupportive of Jack. She holds things against him that are completely out of his control. Her behavior and fear was outrageously egocentric and not an attractive quality to read about (unless of course she’s being betrayed at the villain instead of someone you wanted to succeed.)

Lastly, I have read a few other people’s reviews on this book and I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention the overly controlling, unhealthy relationship between Keri Ann and her older brother, Joey. He limited and controlled her interactions with boys/men growing to such an extent that at 22 years old she didn’t understand that she was attractive. Doesn’t that seem extreme to you? Goodness! I understand being protective but actually negatively impact the way she perceives herself is a no-no in my book. Joey also makes disrespectful comments to her and unfairly judges situations he doesn’t have any business being involved in. Definitely wish someone would’ve put him in his place instead of giving him his own book.

BOOK REVIEW- Rush by Maya Banks

Rush (Breathless, #1)Rush by Maya Banks

Uncle! Uncle! I give up! I gave it my best effort but you lost me 16% of the way into book. Gabe, Jace and Ash own HCM together. A business that just so happens to be wildly successful/profitable. The 3 friends are thick as thieves and you’re led to believe they are as close and dedicated to each other as family members would be. So why on god’s green earth is Gabe moving in on one of his best friend’s little sisters without doing everything in his power to preserve his friendship first? I just couldn’t buy into the risk being justified to either character. Also, If you’re a frequent reader of my reviews you know I looooove alpha males. I think Gabe’s character was supposed to come off as confident, suave and alpha but his romantic advances towards Mia were too strong and instead made me uncomfortable instead of swooning. Pass

BOOK REVIEW- Egomaniac by Vi Keeland

EgomaniacEgomaniac by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another awesome book by Vi Keeland. Drew Jagger has been added to my list of lust-worthy book boyfriends. Me-wow!

Random thoughts as I reflect back on the story and it’s characters-
*I wish both characters would have been a tad older- especially considering their professions and Drew’s level of success- but it wasn’t enough of an issue to distract me from the story.
*I may be in the majority (or exposing my own arrogance) but I didn’t find Drew’s personality to be as arrogant as the title and description would imply. He’s handsome, well educated, successful, wealthy and a great dad. By all accounts he has every right to be unapologetically (not technically a word but you know what I mean) confident. Perhaps at times he was cocky but quite frankly I find that type of confidence and awareness of oneself attractive.

BOOK REVIEW- A Humble Heart by R.L. Mathewson

A Humble Heart (Hollywood Hearts, #1)A Humble Heart by R.L. Mathewson

First and foremost I’m convinced that R.L. Mathewson has been stalking me because the first few chapters of the book eerily mirrored my own life. Yep, my life is just that awesome… 🙁

Because I’m convinced the book is based on my real life I was fully invested in the story and characters. Yet as the story progressed the situations became more and more fantastical and I lost steam. I’m at 61% of the way in the story and I’ve caught myself muttering “no fucking way” too many times to count.

First gripe- Dana has major body issues and then all of a sudden she agrees to doing a steamy bikini photo shoot? I’m going to go ahead and file that into the NOPE column.

Second gripe- How is Edward suddenly “all in”? There was literally no progression of their relationship. One minute he’s a regular guy admiring Dana and the next he AND his family are all up in Dana’s family’s business. Again, I’m calling shenanigans.

Third gripe- Movie stars, photo shoots, stalkers, twin pregnancy and bomb threats…oh my! Literally I think several of these ideas were stolen from the author’s tween daughter’s diary. (Bomb threats and stalkers aside unless the tween is an emo weirdo.) This is of course assuming that the author has a tween daughter…

Fourth gripe- All of a sudden Dana’s being offered major movie roles? Wanna try and run that idea past me again?!? She’s a talented author but how on god’s green earth did that qualify her for acting? Seriously there’s millions of dollars and people’s jobs are at stake when making a major movie. I find it incredulous that they’d pick someone at random who’s talents lie elsewhere for such an important role. Also, because of Dana’s insecurities how I am supposed to believe that she accepted the role? Lastly, the story jumped around so much I never read about the finishing of the first movie where they met. It just all of a sudden mentions the movie premiere. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

So, there you go. I’m a grump-a-saurus and didn’t finish the book.

BOOK REVIEW- Beyond the Darkness by Katie Reus

Beyond the Darkness (Darkness, #3)Beyond the Darkness by Katie Reus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

During my review of “Taste of Darkness” (this book’s predecessor) I had complained about the use of the word “mound” when referring to the character’s vaginas. If this book hadn’t been published a few years before my review I’d swear the author “uped the ante” and started referring to the women’s breasts as mounds just to spite me!!!! Ahhhhhh

Aside from the relentless mention of mounds this book was enjoyable. As the series progresses the types of supernaturals mentioned has become a smorgasbord of every.single.type.of.creature. Wolves, dragons, vampires, demon, demigods…. oh my!

BOOK REVIEW- Room for You by Beth Ehemann

Room for You (Cranberry Inn, #1)Room for You by Beth Ehemann
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has a hiiiiiigh rating and I buckled to peer pressure and gave it 4 stars. If I wasn’t worried about being chased by angry villagers wielding pitchforks I would have given it a 3 star rating.

Kacie is 24 years old and the mother of 5 year old twin girls. As a reader you’re supposed to grasp the absolute devastation and shredded heart she carries from the absence of her children’s father, Zach. I didn’t buy a single drop of her tears. When she and her family describe her relationship it sounds like him leaving was the best thing that could have happened to her! He was a world class jerk and their relationship was borderline abusive. He left her and her children in dangerous situations with no money. Kacie herself says she was committed to their relationship because she wanted a traditional nuclear family- never once mentioning and true feeling for him. So- what she experienced is DISAPPOINTMENT not a broken heart.

Further, when Brody first begins to texts her she’s disrespectful and rude. PASS! I just couldn’t enjoy the book because of Kacie’s character. Boo! Brody was a handsome champion shouldering all of Kacie’s crap.

BOOK REVIEW- Wardrobe Malfunction by Samantha Towle

Wardrobe MalfunctionWardrobe Malfunction by Samantha Towle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Apparently I’m going through a “Samantha Towle” marathon! This is the 3rd book of hers that I’ve read in the past week and a half.

Quite frankly I think it would be difficult for Samantha to write something I wouldn’t enjoy. Wardrobe Malfunction delivered the same awesomeness that I’ve come to expect with her work. Vaughn West is a talented, handsome and therefore very successful Hollywood actor. When we first meet Vaugh he’s recovering from a devastating personal entanglement where his girlfriend was cheating on him with his best friend. Let’s just say that Vaughn has trust issues way above and beyond the cautiousness that anyone in the public eye deals with.

Charlotte “Charly” Michaels is hired as a wardrobe assistant on Vaughn’s newest movie. She’s gorgeous (at one point she’s enlikened to Gigi Hadid) with pink and lavender dyed hair. I can’t pin down her exact personality to describe to you because at certain points she’s feisty and creative. Other times she’s meek and self depreciating.

Ok, so just a fair warning- the ending is very reminiscent of another popular movie star meets a “regular girl”. I’m wracking my brain trying to remember which one it is but I.JUST.CAN’T.REMEMBER! Argh! Stay tuned! I’m sure it will come to me and I’ll update my review. Certainly if you enjoy this book you’ll want to check out the other one.

BOOK REVIEW- Revived by Samantha Towle

Revived (Revved, #2)Revived by Samantha Towle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Looooooooooooooved the first book of the series and was excited to read Leandro’s story. The chemistry between India Harris (sex-kitten psychiatrist) and Leandro (race car playboy) was muy bueno but not exactly plausible (see below). The steamy scenes were off the charts and I enjoyed reading the family dynamic between India, her twin brother Kit and son Jett.

As I briefly mentioned earlier -what I didn’t buy into was the emotional connection between Leandro and India. Honestly, Leandro’s only impression of India was her physical appearance. Their first several encounters he reveals himself, scars and all so it’s fair to say India has a good idea of who he is as a person. But from Leandro’s perspective he knows NADA yet professes to have such a strong connection to her. As a reader I would have appreciated more person sharing on India’s behalf before the strong “love connections” began.

Still a solid 4 out of 5.

BOOK REVIEW- Taste of Darkness by Katie Reus

Taste of Darkness (Darkness, #2)Taste of Darkness by Katie Reus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So, God’s honest truth is that I’ve never really spent too much time thinking of all the different ways to refer to a woman’s vagina. Although if I had I don’t think “mound” would’ve made it to my top 10 list. Aside from the copious use of the term “mound” I enjoyed this book.

When dragon shifter Dragos (aka drake) was introduced in the last book I was stoked. Certainly the concept of any being having the ability to shift form is quite appealing. But let’s be honest, when you’re thinking of the hierarchy in the shifter world – dragons have got to be near the top!!! Ooh la la

In this – the second book of the series- Drake (dragon shifter) and Victoria (wolf shifter) meet his dragon clan and fight to survive and thrive while uncovering who might have sacrificed Dragos to open the hell gate 1500 years ago.

In this installment I warmed up to Victoria’s character. In the last book she came across as kind of a “boring library observer” type.

Prepare yourself for a major spoiler-

Although I enjoyed the book I kept hoping that the traitor would be Fia. She seemed like a pretty terrible/weak character and I would have loved to see that twist in the plot. I mean, come on! Why else would someone get that freaked out about a brunch?!? As someone who has been married into a royal Dragon family she should have *some* experience entertaining and keeping her calm. Annoying and weak. Also, I found her extremely rude to insist that they show up 2 days early when Drake returned. Certainly over the past century and a half she would have learned some manners! Argh
